President's Message

Happy New Year! Let’s face it 2021 was hard, yet I am grateful. I am especially grateful for our members who tirelessly worked our events, recruited members in the grocery store, or brought their family along to games and tailgates, and those that always called to check on each other. I am appreciative to those that ALWAYS showed up and asked what needed to be done and ready to pitch in and fill in the gaps. AAMU Houston Area Alumni Chapter is a village. COVID has yet to loosen its grip and politically, as a country we are more divided than any other time in recent history. About this time of year, I find myself very optimistic about what the upcoming year will hold for me and those I hold dear. This year, I am striving to be uncomfortable with change and uncertainty to encourage personal growth. Brace for impact! Good things are coming, I just know it!
Despite the constantly changing landscape, we continue to thrive as an organization. What binds us all is our connection and pride in our illustrious alma mater, Alabama A&M University. Connections are key to thriving personally and professionally, in fact connections impact our quality of life and overall wellbeing. Whether you are new to Houston or just new to us, whatever stage of life you are in, the Houston Area Alumni Chapter has something for you. Find your spot, whether it is volunteering at our public service events, working on a committee, or speaking with prospective students at a college fair, your voice and talents are needed to further the mission.
One of the primary goals of the Houston Area Alumni Chapter is to support the growth and development of AAMU, promote AAMU to Texas students and seek opportunities to engage prospective students and alumni in meaningful ways that promote long lasting connections and pride for the university. To achieve these goals, great ambassadors are instrumental. Are you ready to accept the challenge?
Last, but not least, I am excited about the direction of the Alabama A&M University with the selection of Dr. Daniel K. Wims as the 12th president, the continued development of the AAMU National Alumni Association, and growth of our Houston Area Alumni Chapter. I look forward to serving and sharing information with you in the upcoming year.
